Sentence Imitation - Submitted by Amanda

We followed the drunken sound of the carnival through a snarl of cramped lanes, where from wooden carts vendors hawked vegetables and dusty sacks of grain and freshly killed rabbits; where children and small cats skulked and prowled with hungry eyes, and women with proud, dirty faces squatted in the gutter peeling potatoes, building little mountains with tossed-away skins.

We followed the faint ripple of the river through a forest of sharp branches, where from little buckets children gethered water and played by the riverside and got each other all muddy; where my friends and I cupped our hands and splashed one another, and with happy, energetic bodies ran in the wet river, jumping and playing in the cool water.

  2. We followed the rushing sound of the river through an entangled mass of bracken, where from the trees birds skwacked and flew around and fought for mates; where poison ivy and weeds grew, and crabs with sharp pincers crawled in the fine sand, defending their coveted land.

We followed the melodious music of the golden phoenix through the forest of tall trees, where from blue parrots flew high in the sky and cawed loudly and circled down; where chicks and blue macaws chirped and sang with golden beaks, and colourful fruit with ripe, soft skin hung in the bushes, spreading its sweet sent across the forest.

We followed the loud howling of the wolves through a large blueberry bush, where the green berries were turning blue and falling to the ground and being eaten by small animals; the wolves and their prey ran and ran, the wolves with hunger in their eyes, their prey with large, fuzzy bunny ears was trapped in the blueberry bush thrashing, while the wolves surrounded their prey.

We followed the melodious sound of the forest’s deepest secret through a clump of knotted roots, where from little hole five-inch fairies delighted in our visit and cries of joy rang out from tiny mouths; where rabbits and foxes lived and worked with vigor, and squirrels with round, joyous faces scurried up the oldest tree cracking nuts, constructing tall piles of nut-shells.

We followed the dim light of the abandoned store through a pile of carts, where dirty shelves employees sold food and ugly bags of clothes and broken wood toys; where cobwebs and blood puddles covered everything and dripped of the walls, and screams with a loud, high-pitched voice in the store echoing in the small isles.

We followed to eerie sound of the forest through some old forgotten brush, where from tall trees owls devoured squirrels and small baby bunnies and tiny grey field mice; where wolves and young foxes stalked and hunted with evil eyes, and deer with long, white horns leaped through the forest nibbling grass, running in herds to protect against their predators.

We followed the mechanical hum of the of the Clocktower, dodging beams of crimson sunlight, where from hide tents red furies clawed at dirt and their sulking beds of straw and limp, lifeless civilians; where screaming men and women spasmed with skin crackling, and Daedras with black, reflective eyes levitated bricks and lashed them at the others.

    ('The Clocktower is capitalized because it is an actual name of a place in the story; it is actually the last standing outpost of human civilization!)

We followed the vibrant butterfly in the forest through a bunch of overgrown plants, where from the wide blue sky birds danced and leaves fell to the ground and strange forest sounds filled the air; where chipmunks scurried around and ants marched all over the ground and into the enormous ant hill, and lots of shrubs and long tall grass with grasshoppers happily jumping in it, making the sound that grasshoppers make.

We followed the scary sound of the creeper in the dark of the long, deep cave, where thin white skeletons shot arrows and pushed us back; where zombies and huge spiders walked and groaned with killing eyes and fighters with shiny, stiff armor kneeled in the cave staring at the huge ravine beyond.

We followed the obnoxious sound of the enemy through a crowd of fearful people, where from iron trucks my allies shot gunpowder and gigantic shells of fire and nuclear radiating missiles; where enemies and spies lurk and scurried with scared faces and rats with uglym, flithy mouths rustled in the dump stealing ammunition, making us lose precious army tools.

We followed the sugary scent of fresh cupcakes through the clustered bakery, where from small tables women delicately peeled the wrappers and bit into the moist cake; where children and their mothers stopped and begged with pleading eyes and pouting lips, and the mothers grabbed their child's chubby wrist and tugged them away, ignoring the tears streaming down their child's face.

  14. We followed the eerie sounds of the forest through a cluster of dangling vines and curly sticks; monster creatures and fog gyrated and hissed with evil eyes, and faces with bloody, melted features in the fog howling, closing in on our souls.

We followed the crackling sound of the campfire through the chatter of eager campers, where from deep in the forest animals rustled through the leaves and thick bushes of thorns and struggling to find food; where children and their responsible chaperones collaberated and sang songs with joyful faces, and children with determined eyes lit up in the fire's glow kneeling in the grass roasting marshmallows, creating smores with the melted chocolate and crisp graham crackers.

We followed the sweet smell of the bakery with a wallet full of money where from glass windows sell sitting donuts and tasty rows of Danishes and freshly baked breads; where we and other people bought and ate with chewing mouths, and employees with happy smiling faces standing in the shop baking food were throwing away mouldy bread with small forks.

We followed the sullen voices of the funeral towards a sea of disheartened souls, where from stone statues pigeons scattered droppings (yes, that is poop) and dark grey feathers and themselves; where mice and silent snakes squeaked and slithered with slow movements, and hawks with sharp, anticipating eyes circled above the crowd of people, hoping some prey or dropped food would come into view.

We followed the errie sound of the dead dodging the dead, bloody animals, where from dark evil was gaurding the presious stones and twinkling jewels and a few million dollers; where me and the others stared with mischivios faces, and wolves, with elegent, black fur looked at the moon with their evil, red eyes, howling to their master.
